These days, I simply live for the days that I can’t quite put into words. Last Sunday, was a day that I will never be able to describe accurately, but I can tell you that I have never experienced anything like it. Nash’s birthday parade has fulfilled our one wish for him.
If you all have read our recent interviews, you will know that Nash cannot celebrate like a typical child. He can’t be around other kids (despite loving it), because we have to keep him as healthy as possible before he gets gene therapy. So, because of this, our community brought the party to him.
Bobby and I agree that this day was more magical than our wedding day and more emotional than most other days. With Nash, we have a HELL of a lot of memorable days that you wouldn’t exactly what you want to remember. This day has overshadowed all of those horrific days and will forever play in my head as a symbol of Nash’s life and the impact he has made on so many.
As Nash’s mom and protector, I promised when we started going through this journey, that I would do everything in my power to create the best life for this child. I promised that I would try every last thing to make the best medical decisions leaving no stones unturned, and the one piece I have not had a lot of control of is being able to “put him out there” due to his susceptibility of getting sick. What I can tell you now is they God forbid something happened to this child tomorrow, I can honestly say that I have lived up to my promise. No, I would not accept the inevitable and will certainly never stop fighting, but this day will replace all of the harsh and scary memories, and I am forever grateful for that.
